Matters arising

2.1

Keith has arranged a meeting with the Glen Algood SEN EB to discuss speed of access to information.

2.2

Assimilation was defined as a mechanism for transferring staff from a redundant post to a new structure.  Particular issues due to the nature of SEN posts that might affect where people may seek to go were identified as:

Support staff/pupil relationships

H/T

Staffs’ residences.

It was confirmed that training processes were ongoing with staff visiting other schools so staff were more aware of the diverse needs of the pupil population and how other schools sought to meet these.

After lengthy discussion it was agreed that a letter would be issued to staff which would:

Explain the principles of assimilation
Explore options on an anonymous and non-threatening basis.
Options to include preferred location, post title by teacher, classroom support staff, caretaker, other support staff.
A guarantee that everyone who wants a job will have one but not necessarily on the same grade.

Other areas where issues remain to be resolved are:

The impact of remodelling
Nursery nurses employed at Wedgewood (nursery nurses are not employed at all nursery schools)
The skills mix of staff to administer medicines and appropriate medical interventions.

Concern was expressed regarding the project timeline, the appointment of Temporary Governing Bodies (TGB’s), preparation of JD’s and the appointment schedule for H/T’s.  It was envisaged that JD’s would be prepared in the autumn term and interviews held in Spring term 2005.
