Transition Group

The Transition Working Group has met once at Bolling Special School on
14th October 2003 to discuss the issues involved in moving furniture and
equipment from a closing school to a new school and the procedures and
processes for closing a current school building down. We then looked round
the school as an example of a special school in the District to assess the
potential issues involved. The group then met again at Lister Lane Special
School on 2nd December 2003, to compare the issues there. It is not
proposed to visit schools proposed for closure at this stage, but to get
a picture of the issues from a sample. Two more visits will take place
 this school year.

Members of staff within the Council and Education Bradford are currently
drawing up an exemplar School Closure Booklet, based on the one used for
the mainstream reorganisation in 2000. When this has been done in draft
form it will be discussed with the Transition Working Group and amended as
necessary. If the proposals are approved, meetings will be held with
schools in the school year prior to closure to explain and clarify the
 issues.

A Transition Plan has been drawn up by the Head Teacher of Temple Bank,
which will close in July 2004 and this experience will inform the proposed
wider special school reorganisation transition process
