We have completed the mapping exercise to identify current service
provision going into special schools and supporting mainstream places. A
small task group will be taking the next few weeks to map these onto
the new school locations to allow for 'best fit' within current
resources. Following this, probably starting in autumn and lasting
over winter 2004/05 we will be trying to identify gaps, and plan
for additional resources for the future. These will
have to be included in PCT Local Delivery Plans from 2006
onwards, and will depend enormously on the amount of growth money we
are given, and competing priorities with other services.
Alongside this, we are working with Education to look at the
comissioning of services such as Speech and Language Therapy,
and where these should be funded from in the future. Service
developments may require input from Education rather than total
funding from Health.
